Cadence: Meaning at Arrival
Context is created within the improvisation, as the relationships of the spontaneous material are referenced, developed, and coordinated over time. In order to execute and communicate cadences intelligibly and cleverly, the gradations and many means of cadencing are made coherent by the performer’s ability to remember themes and various transformations improvised over an extended period of time. This is what it means to communicate as a musician and a musician improvisor.
